Ten Tips For New Freshmen

With school starting in just under a month, I figured it might be fun to do a few posts for back to school! I have a few friends who are getting ready to join me in high school, and I figured some tips might be helpful. I know what you're thinking. Aren't you homeschooled? Well, we go through a charter school. A lot of people take all of their classes through the school, but I do not. We go a few days out of the week for lectures and labs. It's kind of like going to college. When I went from 8th grade to high school, it was crazy, I had no idea what to do! all of a sudden there were a lot of essays and due dates, and just more work in general. Hopefully, these tips will help some of you.

1) Keep a planner. It might seem a bit extra, but it isn't. You'll need to keep track of all those events and due dates.

2) Study. This may seem like a no brainer, but I had no idea how to study before high school. I never needed to.

3) Turn in all your assignments. On time! You'd be surprised how many people turn late homework in. This can seriously tank your grade. In order to turn in the assignments, you have to do them. So, when they're assigned, do them, and keep them ready to be turned in.

4) Find good friends and stick with them. Even as a homeschooler, you can hear about all the drama of who did what to so-and-so. First, stay out of that. Second, find friends that care for you, and won't ditch you at first chance.

5) Keep track of time. When you're doing homework or studying, time can fly by without you realizing it. Then you won't have as much time for other subjects or duties.

6) Don't fail P.E. Yes, I failed a whole semester. Now I'll have P.E. as a junior. Ugh! You have to do it, even if it takes up a ton of your time.

7) Get enough sleep. Sleep is when your body repairs itself, so if you do not get enough sleep, your brain will be thoroughly worn out, and you probably won't so as well on that quiz.

8) Drink lots of water and keep your protein up. Staying healthy will help you perform better on your studies. If you don't put the right fuel in, you can't expect your body to perform right!

9) Take good notes. Going over your notes will be faster than reading the entire chapter to study.

10) Stay comfortable. You can't pay attention to the lecture if you are constantly messing with your outfit. If comfortable means wearing heels for you, do it. If it means wearing sweatpants, so that.

If you stay organized, healthy, and comfortable, you shouldn't have a problem in starting high school.
